Meeting targets

My head is spinning. Not because there is the "rumour" of a possible war between India and Pakistan, but because of the tremendous assumptions, opinions, distortion and even refusal to accept facts. Anyway, I am not really writing to talk about this. There is already enough of it on news, websites, social media and so on.

I made a commitment to myself, to walk atleast 8000 steps each day, for general fitness as well as to cure hypothyroid. More often than not, I miss this target. Very rarely, I go way beyond it. But I still haven't been able to actually achieve it on a "regular" basis. Not even 4 days in a row, nope! The moment I feel hopeful about getting regular, I fall sick. Or my kid falls sick. Or suddenly my husband wants to spend time with me. Or my building friends want to chat. And so on. There is always a reason.

Now you will laugh at me. What menial excuses. No wonder coming from a housewife. If I had put the same things in a more professional language, you would find they're all valid reasons. I was unwell, there was a medical emergency at home, a sudden conference came up, my boss wanted to get updates or a report from me, a new project has come up, bla bla. Try as you might, you can never get anyone to appreciate the tasks a woman (or man, in this century) has to complete in managing a home. The dog chooses to bark and howl right when you have put the tadka on the stove. Or your toddler has to pee immediately. This is not the office kind of immediately. It means just that. NOW or your floor is all gone, wet with pee. You go for your bath and just then the bell rings. Who could it be? Courier guy? Oh god, what if it is important and I miss it? Maid? No chance of screwing this up! Plumber whom you called to repair the leaking tap? If he goes off it will be impossible to catch hold of him again. And so on. Yeah, so simple!

Today I tried to plan meeting up two other mummies of the first grade (no, mummies have no grades, but once you are a mother, you are labelled by your children's class in school. Yep! You lose your name.) And as much as I tried to fit that one or two hours into my schedule, I just could not and finally I had to ask them to try for a weekend, which I am sure will also be packed by then. School, tuitions, other classes, doctor visits, the entire life around children. And when you do get little time, you want to spend it with your spouse on the weekends, going to the same old malls drinking the same old coffee and still trying to stir up a "new" conversation that would possibly not revolve around kids and family. Which eventually does not happen, and so you give up trying to do anything new.

Anyway, you see the point? So the next time you say to someone, "you're not even working outside, what are you busy with all the time?" remember this blog. You see, potty, pee, nutrition, education, etc are way more important tasks than reports, powerpoint presentations, meetings, etc.

So don't ask me why I am not able to do my target steps. I have more important things to do.

Disclaimer: I am not demotivating you from exercising. Go all you want and can, do it, girl! (Or guy). Wishing you luck in all your targets!
